We would like to introduce you to Joanne Barker, registered care manager for Radfield Home Care Newcastle upon Tyne. Joanne is responsible for the day to day running of the office in line with CQC regulations and also for ensuring that the service is safe, caring, responsive, effective and well led. Joanne is the key point of contact for carers, clients and their families and promotes individual’s wellbeing at all times.
Joanne spent over 20 years as a Revenue Officer at HMRC in customer services, helping people with a range of tax enquiries. She particularly enjoyed helping older people who would worry or struggle with tax related issues. Helping those that needed it most gave her a great deal of satisfaction and this drove her to begin a career in care.
“I felt that I had more to offer and wanted to help care and support people who could no longer manage on their own and so I decided to start a new career in the care industry. I started working as a care assistant in a Nursing Home where I had support from experienced carers which I enjoyed immensely. I began studying for my Health and Social Care Diploma and was keen to progress and learn more about how to support people with different conditions and maintain their wellbeing. I studied levels 2 and 3 and was promoted after a couple of years.”
After achieving her level 4 in adult care, Joanne moved into the role of Deputy Manager, supporting the role of the home manager in day to day running of the business. She would help to ensure the home met compliance with CQC guidelines, whilst also setting up and maintaining care plans, liaising with other professional bodies, carrying out pre admission assessments and much more. Supporting care staff to maintain a high standard of care was really important to her during her time in this role.
Joanne’s in-depth knowledge of the care sector as well as her vast experience in customer service makes her ideal for her position in Radfield Home Care Newcastle upon Tyne.
“I have many years of customer service experience which will enable me to carry out my new role meeting and talking to people with confidence. I have also learned through working in residential care that so many people I have cared for and talked to would have preferred to stay in their own homes with familiar surroundings and maintained more of their independence for as long as possible, rather than being in a care home.
I will use this knowledge to ensure the best possible person centred care package is in place to fully support our clients needs and wellbeing. I have so much passion for caring and supporting people and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live their best life.”
