Dementia Diagnosis - a postcode lottery

Hannah MacKechnie Read 1107 times

The State of the Nation Dementia report released by the Department of Health (DH) show that less than half of people with dementia receive a diagnosis and that receiving a correct, timely diagnosis greatly depends on where about's you live in the country.

This postcode lottery for dementia diagnosis has a significant knock-on effect on access to available support and treatment. Without a diagnosis, most people will be denied access to dementia specific networks and groups, access to medication for dementia treatment and also access to funding for home care support services to help maintain independence.
