Be There for Dementia: Community Support for Older Adults in Rickmansworth and Chorleywood

Radfield Home Care Watford & Borehamwood partnered with the Rickmansworth District Residents Association (RDRA) to host the inspiring Be There Event: Dementia Information Day. This collaborative initiative brought together local organisations and service providers to foster wellness, strengthen community connections, and provide practical home care support for older adults across Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, and surrounding areas.

With the theme “Helping our community age well by staying connected to what matters most,” the event highlighted the shared commitment of Radfield Home Care and RDRA to improving the lives of older adults.

By building meaningful relationships and providing access to essential resources, the initiative empowered older people to live with dignity, independence, and confidence.

About the organisation

Radfield Home Care provides specialist dementia care in Watford and Borehamwood, along with live-in care, companionship, and assistance with daily living. Their trained Care Professionals  focus on person-centred support, helping older adults remain independent, socially engaged, and safe in their own homes.

Through initiatives like the Be There Event, Radfield Home Care demonstrates a commitment to community wellbeing and accessible, high-quality home care for older adults across Hertfordshire.

The Rickmansworth District Residents Association (RDRA) is a community-focused organisation that strengthens local networks, supports residents, and enhances quality of life. RDRA promotes social inclusion, runs community initiatives, and creates opportunities for residents to stay connected, active, and informed.

By partnering, these organisations combined expert care knowledge with community engagement, creating a day that celebrated connection, awareness, and empowerment for older adults and their families.

A day of learning and connection

The Be There Event featured informative talks, interactive workshops, and live demonstrations. These were designed for participants who had the opportunity to learn from a variety of experts:

  • Carers in Hertfordshire supports unpaid carers across Hertfordshire, including those caring for people with dementia. They provide guidance, emotional support, training, and practical resources to help carers manage daily tasks and reduce stress. By connecting carers to local networks and dementia-friendly services, they empower families to provide safe, compassionate care.

  • Grey Matters Consultancy is a UK based service that helps older adults and their families navigate complex financial and legal support systems. They specialise in guiding people through applications for Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit, Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Blue Badge permits, and Lasting Power of Attorney. Their team provides expert advice, form filling support, and personalised guidance to ensure applications are accurate and maximise the chances of success, helping clients access financial support they may be entitled to and reducing stress for carers and loved ones.

  • Memory Support Hertfordshire provides a comprehensive range of services designed to support both people living with dementia and their carers, helping them maintain independence, confidence, and quality of life. Their support focuses on practical help, emotional wellbeing, and community connection.

  • Herts Police provides guidance to older adults on how to stay safe from scams, fraud, and other criminal activity. Their advice helps residents recognise warning signs, protect personal information, and report suspicious activity, keeping older adults and their families secure and informed.

  • Strength and Balance – GKL Active Wellbeing demonstrated gentle exercises aimed at improving mobility, balance, and overall wellbeing for older adults. Their interactive session encouraged participants to stay physically active, reduce the risk of falls, and maintain independence in daily life.

The event also included community networking opportunities, with information stalls where residents could meet local support services, share experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals.

Strengthening the local community

The Be There Event demonstrates how collaboration between care providers and community organisations can enhance the lives of older adults. By providing education, practical guidance, and social connection, Radfield Home Care and RDRA are helping to build a dementia-friendly, inclusive community in Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, and Watford.

Radfield Home Care continues to offer compassionate, person-centred support, including dementia home care, live-in care, and assistance with daily activities. Their mission is to ensure that older adults can live safely and confidently at home while maintaining independence and dignity.
