At Radfield Home Care Liverpool North & Sefton, our ‘Be There’ philosophy is more than a slogan; it is a commitment to creating person-centred experiences that help our clients lead rich, fulfilling lives. This is the story of Jade, a dedicated Care Professional, and Bob, a remarkable 103-year-old gentleman whose spirit remains as vibrant as ever.
Bob was born in Everton and later moved to Crosby with his wife, fulfilling her lifelong wish to live by the coast. Before retirement, Bob worked as an engineer during the war. Although he had hoped to join the Royal Air Force, his skills meant he was needed in engineering to support the war effort — a role he grew to love and take great pride in.
Bob has always lived an active and social life. He was part of a walking group that travelled across the UK and he remains close to his nieces and a wide circle of friends who visit regularly.
A passionate singer, Bob loves the music of Frank Sinatra and even met his wife through singing lessons – something he still speaks about with great joy.
Bob lost his sight following a fall at the age of 100. Prior to this, he had been living independently at home. Now residing in a care home, he receives four hours of companionship support every fortnight from Jade – time that has become incredibly important to him.
Bob enjoys revisiting places that hold special memories. Together, he and Jade have spent time at:
Bob also wanted to locate the graves of friends who had passed away so he could pay his respects. Jade independently researched the locations to make this possible — a deeply meaningful outcome for Bob.
Each visit also includes one of Bob’s favourite activities: going out for lunch and dessert before returning home.
Although Bob is now blind, Jade brings every outing to life through vivid and thoughtful description — explaining:
Through Jade’s words, Bob continues to experience the world around him. Bob looks forward to these visits immensely — they are not just outings, but opportunities to reconnect with his past, his community, and his identity.

Jade also supports Bob to maintain links with his former walking group, with plans for him to meet his friends again when the weather improves.
Bob will be attending Radfield Home Care’s Friendship Afternoon Tea as a VIP guest at Marine in the Community, alongside Jade and four of his friends. There, he will enjoy live music from Dave Benjamin, including some of his favourite Frank Sinatra songs — and may even perform a duet.
