TV extra turned Liverpool care champion joins Radfield

Chris Dale is one of life’s go-getters. He’s a 78-year-old multi-talented, legend of Liverpool and we are delighted to have him join us at Radfield Home Care Liverpool North as our community engagement officer.

At Radfield we are on a mission to help the nation age well by remaining connected to what matters most to them. This mantra doesn’t just stop at our clients. We empower everyone in our organisation to be themselves and feel connected.

Chris is a fantastic example of this, he’s 78 years old and he’s still helping to make the world a better place. His work in the community is building solid relationships between Radfield Home Care, the local community, and nearby businesses, in doing so, he is helping us reach vulnerable older people that might need our help remaining independent at home.

From home theatre to home care

But, Chris isn’t just a home care champion, believe it or not in his spare time he and his wife work as ‘extras’ on film and TV sets. They’ve regularly appeared in Hollyoaks and many years ago in Dad’s Army. You might think this would be it, but no, Chris also rocks and rolls his way across Liverpool as an entertainer/singer for local care homes.

Chris has found his calling in care

“I was introduced to Dave and Denys, the owners and directors of Radfield through my son; he looks after the IT side of their business and arranged to meet up with Dave last summer so I could talk through a promotional role for the business. I love meeting new people and really believe in Dave and Denys and what their business stands for; high quality home care, with the clients at the heart of everything they do.

I now regularly visit GP surgeries, community hubs, dentists, funeral directors, libraries, supermarkets, cafés, adult education centres, garden centres, to name but a few, spreading the word about the great service Radfield offers and the great employment opportunities they provide in Liverpool and the surrounding areas.”

Since joining Radfield Home Care Liverpool North, Chris has become a famous face in the office. His charismatic personality rubs off on everyone he meets.

“I love meeting people and  I feel proud that I work for a community business that provides such great care and support for older people. Dave and Denys are lovely people to work for.  I’ve never worked in an office, when there is always coffee, tea, chocolates and biscuits on offer, everyone is lovely. Dave always makes me a cup of coffee and makes me feel so welcome. I certainly wouldn’t want to be promoting any other business, I really believe in them, they both have a strong passion for caring for people.”

Keeping busy is the secret to a healthy brain

According to Chris, keeping himself busy is what’s helped him to age well. He’s been working for most of his life, starting in 1961, he spent 30 years in the motor trade in various different roles.

Following his three decades in the motor industry, he moved into a position at a training company in the care sector. In this role, he would enrol people onto NVQ’s for care homes and care agencies. When his training role came to an end, Chris bought two newsagents in the centre of Liverpool, which he later sold when he turned 50.

He didn’t stop there though. At 56, Chris joined Age Concern in Liverpool and was responsible for running the local lunch club three times per week, organising annual holidays and days out with Age Concern service users.

“They all felt like very good friends to me, I loved my role there.”

Chris also explained:

“I’m 78 and still consider myself to be young, fit and active. Keeping busy is the secret to a healthy brain in my opinion. I will continue to work for as long as my legs allow me, I will be on my second knee operation in a couple of months, and I’m planning to have just a few weeks off and then I’ll be back at work as soon as I can.”
