Radfield Home Care Wakefield & Dewsbury, a leading home care provider, is proud to reflect upon its recent success of maintaining essential, safe and high quality care to clients throughout the Covid pandemic. It has also recently celebrated the achievement of ‘Top 20 Home Care Provider’ status awarded by leading home care review website, homecare.co.uk.

Covid has presented care providers with an unprecedented range of complex and demanding issues, such as interpreting rapidly changing legislation and ensuring access to key safety equipment such as personal protective equipment (PPE). Director of Radfield Home Care Wakefield and Dewsbury, Jackie Gillen, has been meeting these demands head on and has led the implementation of their responsive coronavirus strategy which ensures the safety of their clients and carers - focusing heavily upon infection control.

”It has been a huge struggle for care providers to access PPE that is fit for purpose and not extortionately priced. We have currently spent approx £10,000 on PPE in the last two months - which is four times our annual budget. We are pleased to say we have enough PPE to ensure the continued safe running of our care services and would not provide care or ask our carers to provide our services without the correct PPE,”
Jackie explains.

Adjustments have been made across the board to ensure safety for all, with Jackie confirming, “All of our care professionals wear full PPE at every call and follow infection control procedures. We have devised a bespoke Covid training course for all of our staff to complete along with increased competency checks around infection control. We have also amended care plans significantly to ensure clear guidelines are provided for staff to follow and document at every care call. Our care staff have responded and adapted to all the changes to PPE and infection control procedures with utter professionalism and have not been phased at all. They have all attended further training and taken it all in their stride.”

A staff survey has also been completed covering Covid issues and measuring support received from the management team, the results have been overwhelmingly positive, with one member of staff saying, "We have always been updated with the new policies and guidance surrounding Covid19 as soon as they were released - the Radfield management team have been fantastic at keeping us up to date.”

Jessica Jenkinson, Radfield Home Care’s Governance & Compliance Manager, has expressed her appreciation for the hard work undertaken by the team, "During the pandemic Radfield Home Care Wakefield and Dewsbury have shown their ability to adapt their service throughout the crisis. Guidance and legislation has been changing rapidly and they have flexed and adapted their services to ensure care provision continues in line with up to date Government Guidance. Care teams have been provided with comprehensive guidance and support to allow them to deliver a safe and caring service through the challenges posed by COVID-19."
