For World Franchise Day 2026 we are looking back on our nearly 10 year journey so far and what franchising and the franchising community has meant for us as Radfield Home Care grew from a local Shropshire business to a national provider of quality private care.
Taking place annually on the second Wednesday of June, World Franchise Day was established by the World Franchise Council to recognise the global impact of franchising on communities, businesses and economies. In the UK, franchising continues to grow, with more than 1,000 franchise systems, almost 50,500 franchise units, an annual economic contribution of £19.1 billion and approximately 770,000 people employed through the sector.
For Radfield Home Care, World Franchise Day is also a moment to reflect on its own journey; from a family-run residential care home in Shrewsbury to an award-winning national home care franchise network helping people across the country age well at home.
Siblings Dr Hannah MacKechnie and Alex Green grew up in a residential care home run by their parents on the banks of the River Severn in Shrewsbury, the birthplace of Charles Darwin.
Back then in the 80’s it was Radfield Residential Care Home. This changed in 2008, when Hannah and Alex transformed their parents’ care brand into Radfield Home Care, taking the same dedication to quality care and bringing it into people’s own homes. This marked the beginning of Radfield’s mission to help the nation age well by keeping people connected to what matters most to them. It also laid the foundation for a franchise model built around quality, community and long-term local relationships.
In 2017, Radfield Home Care opened its first franchise location in Worcester. This was a major step in the organisation’s growth, creating a way for values-led business owners to bring Radfield’s model of high-quality private home care to their own local communities.
Franchising also opened Radfield up to the world of structured business support, sharing our unique approach to care with prospective business owners across the country, many of whom have gone on to become owners of Radfield Home Care franchises.
Throughout our care services and our franchise support is the same commitment to high standards. This has earned Radfield numerous franchise accolades including;
Next year, 2027, will mark Radfield Home Care’s 10th year of franchising and the 45th anniversary of the brand. Over that time, the network has grown into a nationally recognised home care group, with franchise partners supporting older people, families and Care Professionals across the UK.
Named the “Most Outstanding Home Care Group” at the 2026 Home Care Awards, Radfield has become synonymous with quality care thanks to a network of dedicated franchise partners working to a shared model and goal.
World Franchise Day is about recognising the contribution franchise businesses make to local communities, economies and people’s lives. For Radfield Home Care, it is also an opportunity to celebrate the franchise partners, Care Professionals and national office team who have helped build a network with one shared purpose; to help the nation age well by keeping people connected to what matters most to them.
Dr Hannah MacKechnie, CEO and co-founder of Radfield Home Care, said:
“World Franchise Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the positive impact franchising has on local communities. For Radfield Home Care, franchising has allowed us to share the values that began in our family care home more than 40 years ago and support local business owners to deliver high-quality care in their own communities.
“As we approach our 10th year of franchising in 2027, we are incredibly proud of the franchise partners, office teams and Care Professionals who have helped shape Radfield into the network it is today. Our recent award wins are a reflection of their dedication, compassion and commitment to helping people age well at home.”
