The launch of the Radfield Luncheon Club

26 May 2026

The launch of the Radfield Luncheon Club

At Radfield Home Care Chester & Ellesmere Port, we understand how important connection, companionship and community are to ageing well. For many older people, staying socially active can have a positive impact on emotional wellbeing, confidence and overall quality of life.

Yet loneliness and social isolation remain a growing concern for older adults across the UK, particularly for those living alone or receiving care at home.

That is why we are delighted to introduce the Radfield Luncheon Club – Within the Walls; a brand new monthly social experience launching this June at the beautiful Queen at Chester Hotel.

Created to bring people together in a warm, welcoming and elegant setting, the Radfield Luncheon Club has been designed for those who enjoy good food, meaningful conversation and enjoyable experiences shared with others. Each monthly event will combine delicious dining with entertainment, guest speakers and engaging activities in one of Chester’s most iconic venues.

Why social connection matters as we age

Many older people can gradually become disconnected from hobbies, friendships and community activities due to mobility challenges, health conditions or changes in confidence. Over time, this can lead to feelings of loneliness and reduced independence.

We believe that quality care is about far more than completing tasks. It is about supporting people to remain connected to the things, people and places that matter most to them. Through our Be There commitments, we help people to Be themselves, Be connected and Be inspired to continue living the life they want to lead.

The launch of the Radfield Luncheon Club reflects this commitment by creating opportunities for companionship, conversation and shared experiences in a relaxed and uplifting environment.

What to expect at the Radfield Luncheon Club

Our first luncheon club event will take place next month at The Queen at Chester Hotel, with future monthly gatherings planned throughout the year.

Originally opened in 1860 as Chester’s first railway hotel, the hotel has recently undergone a stunning £5 million refurbishment, blending heritage and character with stylish modern comfort. Located opposite Chester Station, it is known for its exceptional hospitality, tranquil surroundings and beautiful interiors.

The elegant setting creates the perfect environment for relaxed afternoons filled with companionship, conversation and enjoyable activities.

Guests can look forward to:

  • Tea and coffee on arrival
  • Friendly conversation and companionship
  • A delicious lunch
  • Guest speaker and activities
  • A relaxed and elegant atmosphere

The luncheon club has been thoughtfully designed to feel welcoming and inclusive. For many people exploring elderly companionship services or community-based support for older adults, opportunities like this can provide an important sense of routine, confidence and belonging.

An inspiring first guest speaker

We are especially excited that our very first guest speaker will be renowned author Rosemary Pardoe, who will be joining us for an intimate Q&A session.

Rosemary “Ro” Pardoe is a respected science fiction and fantasy writer, editor and one of the founders of the British Fantasy Society. She is widely recognised for her work within the literary world, particularly her long-running editorship of Ghosts and Scholars, dedicated to the work of M. R. James.

We are honoured that Rosemary, who is also one of our clients, will be sharing stories and insights from her fascinating career. Her involvement highlights the importance of recognising and celebrating the rich life experiences, talents and passions that older people continue to bring to their communities.
