Supporting Our Community at Memory Lane in Barnet & Finchley

As Director of Radfield Home Care Barnet & Finchley, I feel incredibly fortunate to volunteer every Friday at Memory Lane, held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. This wonderful community event has become a much-loved part of life in Barnet and Finchley, bringing joy, companionship and connection to local people.

Memory Lane is more than just a weekly gathering. It is a safe, welcoming space where older people across Barnet and Finchley can socialise, reminisce and enjoy meaningful activities together.

Bringing Joy to Older People in Barnet and Finchley

Our team supports the event in many small but meaningful ways. We serve tea and coffee, hand out lunch, top up plates with cakes and biscuits, and make sure everyone feels comfortable and included. Often, it is the smallest gestures that have the biggest impact. A friendly chat, a warm smile or simply remembering how someone takes their tea can brighten an entire afternoon.

The room is always full of life and laughter. Music plays throughout the afternoon, encouraging sing-alongs and even a little gentle dancing. There is also a much-loved game of bingo, which brings friendly competition and plenty of smiles. It is heartwarming to see people connecting, building friendships and enjoying themselves in such a relaxed environment.

Supporting People Living with Dementia and Mobility Challenges

Two of our lovely clients attend Memory Lane each week and thoroughly enjoy being part of the group. One client recently shared:

“I used to love dancing. My mobility isn’t what it used to be, but I tried a little dancing today. My husband can’t dance, but I’ve always loved it, even without him.”

Moments like these capture exactly why community initiatives like Memory Lane are so important in Barnet and Finchley. They give people living with mobility challenges or memory loss the opportunity to reminisce, stay active and remain socially connected. Even a small moment on the dance floor can help someone reconnect with who they are and what they love.

As a local home care provider in Barnet, Finchley, and surrounding areas, we understand how vital social interaction is for wellbeing. Isolation can have a significant impact on older people and those living with dementia. Events like Memory Lane play a key role in supporting mental health, confidence and independence.

Strengthening Community Connections in Finchley and Barnet

Volunteering at Memory Lane is a genuine privilege. It is not only about serving refreshments or organising activities. It is about sharing laughter, singing together, enjoying bingo and creating a warm, inclusive space where everyone feels valued.

At Radfield Home Care Barnet & Finchley, we are proud to support initiatives that strengthen our local community. Memory Lane is a lively, joyful and meaningful part of life in Barnet and Finchley, helping to build friendships and bring smiles to everyone who attends.
