We organised a Coronation Event with the 2nd Squirrels Heath Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to bring together both young and old for the Coronation celebrations.
Similar to the event that we ran for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year, it took place on Saturday 13th May at Arnaud Lodge Scout Hall in Hornchurch, where the Scout group meet weekly. At Radfield Home Care Havering & Brentwood, we are committed to helping our clients age well whilst staying connected to the local community and to things that they love doing.
The day was filled with pure joy and special conversations. Despite there being a vast age gap between the generations, they bonded, shared stories, talked about their interests and made some lovely memories.
There was cake, lots of food, some classic old tunes, plenty of royal based activities and the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts even treated everyone to their rendition of the National Anthem, twice! A week before the event, the Cubs made some beautiful flowers to give to our amazing clients and the Beavers designed crowns to decorate the room and made their own union jack out of their handprints. It was fantastic seeing them hand out their gifts and seeing the clients’ faces light up, whilst the room looked amazing! The room was decorated with bunting and flags which were donated by Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George’s Hospital in Ilford, following their Coronation Celebrations the week before.
Charlie Lovegrove, Community Connector, tells us:
“The event was amazing and was everything that we had hoped for! The interactions that the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts made with our lovely clients were all magical. It was amazing to see our clients so happy to be out and about and enjoying socialising. It was lovely for the group to meet one of our client’s who was a scout leader back in the day, another lady who is 103 years young, and another one of our client’s who is still heavily involved in the guiding movement. What was also magical was that our client’s family members remembered the Beavers that they met last year at our Jubilee Party, it was so lovely! What better time to celebrate than for the King’s Coronation too!”
We were so glad to see the connections being made and such compassion and understanding from the children who attended. It is great that we have been able to organise various community events such as this, alongside such a friendly family community at the 2nd Squirrels Heath Scout Group.
We’ve built up a lovely connection with the Scout group over the years. Charlie Lovegrove, our Community Connector, has been the Beaver Leader with the group for a while now. Our Care Manager’s grandad, John Reed, has been a Scout Leader with the group for over 40 years! More recently, our Director, Lisa Cable has started supporting Charlie by volunteering as an Assistant Beaver Leader weekly too. The Beavers have become Dementia Friends and also have been involved in many projects to benefit our clients and combat social isolation. Long may it continue and God Save the King!
