Building confidence in older people through compassionate care

Unfortunately, some clients tend to suffer from extreme anxiety and our Care Professionals go above and beyond to provide the support and encouragement they need to help their clients overcome their anxiety and step out of their comfort zones.

Helen has been working as a Care Professional with us for over three years, her client of two years Jean suffers from extreme anxiety causing her to worry excessively and find herself not wanting to leave the house. From the beginning, Helen understood the importance of establishing trust and a connection with Jean and created a safe space for Jean to express her fears and worries which helped Helen to understand that taking small steps was key to Jean’s progress.

Building confidence through care

With patience and unwavering support, she gently encouraged Jean to come and visit our Day Centre, which we run out of Hornchurch Football Club twice a week, by explaining to her all of the fun activities that they had taken part in that day and the delicious food that they ate. Jean attended the Day Centre a couple of times to see if she enjoyed it… Shortly after Jean began to attend the Day Centre weekly and now visits on both days that it operates and loves it! This has been completely life-changing for Jean as thanks to Helen going above and beyond with her amazing support and guidance Jean’s life went from being housebound and overwhelmed by anxiety to actively participating in community activities and embracing new experiences helping her rediscover the fun in life and finding joy in the simplest of moments.

“Jean now asks to constantly go to the day centre as it is the highlight of her week.”

Helen explained:

“It makes me extremely elated to know I have persuaded her to change her mindset on going out, she now refers to me as her friend and is always looking forward to going to the day centre, it really has made an extremely positive impact on her life.”

Jean’s daughter, Dawn, added:

“As a family we are eternally grateful to Radfield for allowing us to keep mum at home. Helen has enriched mums life and given her back a life outside of her own 4 walls, this week I even managed to take my mum to visit her sister for the first time in over 3 years and I have no doubt that I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support and work Helen has put in over the last 2 years.”
