Remember, nobody’s perfect!

Radfield Home Care Havering & Brentwood is on a mission to support our local community. We want to help them age well and remain connected to what matters most to them. We aim to support and develop our Care Professionals to be there for themselves and our clients.

As Care Professionals, we look after people as best as we can. However, it isn’t always perfect, and we spend lots of time reflecting on what we could’ve done better or differently.

So it’s important to remember that nobody is perfect! We can have a habit of looking at others and seeing all that they do well, but when it comes to ourselves, we focus on the things that could’ve gone better.

Top Tips for recognising and admiring your imperfections:

  • Acknowledge you could’ve done better, not to use it as a stick to beat yourself with, but as a reminder of what you want to do better next time. Writing this down may help to get the stuff off of your mind.
  • Remind yourself of the bigger picture. Sometimes small things can play on our minds, but try to think of them on the correct scale. We can often make things more significant than they need to be. A good approach is to consider whether this will matter tomorrow, next week or next year. In most cases, the answer to each of these will be no – so try not to sweat it!
  • Notice all the things you’ve got right or went well. Review your day and interactions with clients. I am sure that you can find many positive things that went well. The comfort and support you provided to a client, the assistance you gave them to be independent or the smile they gave you as you arrived.

Be There Action – if you are going to be critical of yourself, try to be balanced and consider the positive difference you are making in people’s lives.
