Your Memories Matter: A new radio programme supporting people living with dementia in Shropshire

At Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, we are delighted to be supporting a new weekly radio programme that aims to create a calm, familiar and welcoming listening experience for people living with dementia and memory loss across Shropshire.

Your Memories Matter, created by community station INTune Radio, launches on Sunday 6 September at 10am. The programme will use music, memories, nostalgia and local stories to encourage connection and conversation, creating a space that people living with dementia, their families and loved ones can enjoy together.

We are proud to be supporting the programme as part of a year-long partnership with INTune Radio. We believe that supporting people living with dementia is about much more than providing practical care. It is also about helping people remain connected to their communities, their interests and the memories that are important to them.

A new space for memories, music and connection

Your Memories Matter is believed to be the first dedicated radio programme of its kind in Shropshire. It has been carefully created with people living with memory loss and dementia in mind.

Unlike traditional radio broadcasting, the programme will provide a gentle and uninterrupted listening experience, without loud station idents or advertising breaks. Instead, listeners can enjoy carefully selected music, local stories and content designed to encourage positive memories, conversation and nostalgia.

For many people living with dementia, familiar music can be particularly meaningful. A favourite song can bring back memories of a particular time, place or person and can provide an opportunity for conversation with family members and carers.

We are particularly pleased that the programme will also give local people the opportunity to share their own memories and stories. Shropshire residents and Radfield Home Care clients are being invited to contribute stories from their past and help shape future programmes.

There will also be opportunities to visit the INTune Radio studio in Shrewsbury’s Darwin Centre, see the programme being recorded and, where appropriate, take part.

“This show is entirely powered by community connection, and we want it to belong to the people of Shropshire. Through this great collaboration with Radfield Home Care, we are creating an open door. We want to invite listeners, people with memory loss or dementia, and their loved ones to get involved, share their rich histories, and join us to make a profound, lasting impact together.”

Wayne Flynn, INTune Radio

Connecting families with local support

One of the things we particularly value about Your Memories Matter is its focus on community connection.

Alongside the music and memories, the programme will help listeners and their families discover local sources of support. Charities, community groups and care organisations across Shropshire are being invited to share information about their services through the Your Memories Matter website and within the programme.

This is particularly important for families who may be looking for support after a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia or who are beginning to explore their care options.

As a local home care provider supporting people across Shrewsbury, Oswestry and surrounding areas of Shropshire, we know how valuable it can be for families to have access to trusted local information and support.

“At Radfield Home Care, we are always looking for ways to enrich the lives of those living with memory loss and dementia. When we saw the care INTune Radio put into creating ‘Your Memories Matter’, we knew we had to step up as a sponsor. It is a real privilege to help create Shropshire’s first dedicated nostalgia show, which will create a comforting audio sanctuary and a platform for people to share their invaluable life stories.”

Karen Corcoran, Radfield Home Care’s Regional Development Director

Supporting dementia care in Shropshire

Our involvement with Your Memories Matter is part of our wider commitment to supporting people living with dementia and their families in our local community.

As the programme’s exclusive Home Care sponsor, we will remain involved throughout the year, bringing our team, clients and community care initiatives into the programme’s wider activity.

The programme is also sponsored by We Are Listening, a Shrewsbury-based charity providing a befriending service to older people who live alone and have limited contact with others. The charity provides telephone and/or correspondence-based befriending services across the UK.

We hope Your Memories Matter will become a much-loved part of the local community and provide people living with dementia and memory loss with an opportunity to listen, reminisce and connect.

Listen to Your Memories Matter

Listeners can tune in to Your Memories Matter from 10am on Sunday 6 September. People living with dementia or memory loss, their families and carers, and local community organisations are encouraged to get involved by sharing their stories, memories and details of relevant support services.

At Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, we believe that supporting people living with dementia is about much more than providing care. It is about helping people stay connected to the people, places and memories that matter to them.

If you would like to find out more about dementia care at home in Shrewsbury, Oswestry or the surrounding Shropshire area, our local team would be happy to have a conversation. Contact Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry to find out how we could support you or someone you love.
