Richard Belcham

Community Engagement Officer

About Richard

I have a background in human services, marketing communications and community development. Over a 35-year career in both the UK and Canada, I have managed organisations, led teams, and championed social justice initiatives that support vulnerable and marginalised people.

This included as Executive Director of Inasmuch Community Society, where I oversaw services for asylum seekers and refugees, alongside earlier roles in communications, HR, and organisational development across a range of sectors. In my earlier career I held various communication roles for the Southbank Centre, The Post Office, and the Royal Household.

In recent years, I have focused my efforts directly on hands-on care and support. I have worked as a Residential Support Worker, providing daily emotional and practical care, and have spent the last four years at The Cavalier Centre. There, I delivered inclusive programmes for individuals with SEND, behavioural challenges, and mental health needs. I also qualified as a Riding for the Disabled Association coach.

I am inspired by a deep-rooted belief in dignity and inclusion. Having worked with older adults living with dementia and individuals facing complex life challenges, I have seen the profound difference that person-centred support makes. My goal is to ensure every individual is supported to live a full and independent life.

How has your background prepared you for your new role at RHC?

My combination of hands-on care experience and long-standing background in communications means I can build strong networks and foster meaningful community engagement.

Working directly with individuals in care settings has given me authenticity, empathy, and a good understanding of people’s needs, while my communications career has equipped me with the ability to clearly articulate messages, build relationships, and connect with a wide range of stakeholders.

This blend allows me to engage with service users, families, professionals, and community partners, creating trust and encouraging collaboration. As a result, I hope I am able to strengthen community links, raise awareness of services, and support inclusive initiatives that bring people together and expand opportunities for those I work with.

What has inspired you to want to be involved in the adult social care sector?

I have been inspired to work in adult social care by a strong belief in dignity, inclusion, and the importance of supporting people to live full and independent lives.

Through my experience working with a wide range of individuals—including older adults with dementia, people with disabilities, and those facing complex life challenges. I have seen first-hand the difference that compassionate, person-centred support can make.

How do you feel your role, and your experience, will benefit Radfield’s clients?

I believe my experience will benefit Radfield Home Care’s clients by combining compassionate, hands-on care with strong communication and relationship-building skills. I like to build trust with clients, families, and professionals to help ensure consistent, high-quality care and make sure they feel valued and confident in their daily lives.
