Every mile walked brings hope to individuals and relatives navigating a dementia diagnosis. Over the course of a single month, our team at Radfield Home Care Derby, Ashbourne & South Derbyshire stepped out into the fresh air to complete a collective 203-mile walking challenge, raising £310 for Dementia UK.
From crisp morning strolls in local parks to unexpected downpours where Care Professionals found themselves sheltering under trees, every step taken was dedicated to helping local families access expert guidance and compassionate support.

Our team covered an incredible variety of routes across the region and beyond. Walkers clocked up miles along the Nutbrook Trail, around Mackworth and Elvaston, beside Swarkestone Lock and Weston-on-Trent, and along the banks of the River Derwent. One team member even added to the total while away in sunny Gran Canaria.
Understanding how community events raise dementia awareness shows that charity challenges do far more than collect donations. Stepping out into public spaces starting conversations about care helps break down stigma, encouraging neighbours and friends to seek help early.
Physical activity also plays a key role in wellbeing, with the benefits of walking for people living with dementia including improved sleep, better mobility, reduced anxiety, and boosted mood.
Care Manager Amanda White shared her pride in the team’s achievement:
“I’m incredibly proud of the whole team and what they have achieved throughout this challenge. Walking 203 miles and raising £310 for Dementia UK is a fantastic accomplishment, but what makes me most proud is the commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm everyone showed along the way.
It has been wonderful to see the team come together, encourage one another and get involved, all while supporting such an important cause. Every mile, donation and word of encouragement contributed to something bigger, and I think this challenge really reflects the caring and compassionate spirit of our team. It’s a brilliant achievement, and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone who played a part.”
