Wendy’s story, carer

We would like to introduce you to Wendy, a care professional with Radfield Home Care Derby, Ashbourne and South Derbyshire. Wendy joined the care team in April 2020.

Wendy has worked in the care sector for a number of years before taking a break to look after her mum, now 82, and her grandchildren. Wendy’s grandchildren are now all school age, so it was the right time for her to enter the world of care once again, a sector Wendy loves.

What has inspired you to join the care sector?

I have always worked in care looking after older people. I love working with them and listening to the stories they share about their past.

Why Radfield Home Care?

I previously worked in a care home setting, which is very fast pace, not giving you the time to get to know the people you are caring for properly. With Radfield, you get to know the people you are caring for really well, and you can enjoy spending time together.

I didn’t actually speak to any other home care provider when I started to look at the home care assistant role. Bryan, my care manager, very quickly responded to my application and I found both Bryan and Sam, the director of Radfield really friendly and approachable straight away.

How did you get to hear about the job opportunity?

I found out about the job on the government website – Find a Job. There is a lot of national coverage at the moment about the need for carers, and this was the website they are directing people to.

What are your career aspirations?

I would like to progress my career in the company. It’s early days, but I have been made to feel very welcome and can’t see me ever wanting to move now. It would be great to progress to senior carer and perhaps field supervisor.

Do you have any special moments with clients you would like to share?

I have had some wonderful special moments with clients, but one of my clients one day told me that she loved me, and wouldn’t know what to do without me. What a lovely comment to receive!

What do you love most about your job and working for Radfield?

I absolutely love working for the special people I look after, and I wouldn’t have been able to meet them without working for Radfield. It always feels like a privilege.
