How Karl is changing Dorothy’s life every day

To us, our clients are family. Everyone we care for has a special place in our hearts and we make sure they’re looked after like they’re our own. So without further ado, meet Dorothy.

Dorothy has trouble getting dressed and needs a hand applying creams to her joints to help with some pains. She absolutely loves knitting. She’s been knitting since the age of 15 and she can whip up a hat in a day if she puts her mind to it!

We’re on a mission to help the nation age well and remain connected to what matters most to them. Dorothy’s a bit of a chatterbox and we know how important it is to her that we make the time to have a proper chat. That’s where Karl comes in.

Karl with Dorothy

Karl has been working with us for over five years now and he’s generous, caring, helpful and can make a cracking cup of tea. During their time together, Karl and Dorothy have built a fantastic bond that only continues to grow.

“I have been having support from Radfield Homecare for a long time and am especially fond of Karl. I really couldn’t manage without the support of the Care Professionals. They are so friendly and kind and I spend a lot of time at home on my own so really appreciate the company too. I do love to chat!”

Knitting hats for us and those in need

Earlier on I mentioned that Dorothy is a keen knitter. Well, as a thank you to her Care Professionals for all of their hard work, she likes to knit them winter wear to keep them warm during those chilly months.

Here’s Angela, another of our Care Professionals sporting her new knitted hat!

Dorothy’s kindness doesn’t stop at Care Professionals though. She’s currently in the process of knitting some little baby hats for babies born prematurely in the local hospital. Watch this space, we will be following this up in a later article so you can read all about her amazing project as it progresses.

Creating a culture that encourages progression

The way we see things, good care starts with looking after our Care Professionals. We make sure our care family feel valued, empowered and well supported so that they can provide the best possible care to our clients. We’re a business with family at it’s heart and we want every Care Professional, office team member and client to feel like they’re part of something.

Karl has recently progressed to the role of Field Care Supervisor, supporting clients and other Care Professionals in the community.

“For this role I was supported with further e-learning which I found very useful. I have had continuous support from the office team since taking this position. The role is varied and includes care and support for clients, client reviews, mentoring new Care Professionals, competencies in the field and client satisfaction. I’m really glad I took the opportunity for progression within my career as it allows further self-development.”

We encourage all of our care family to progress and increase their knowledge of the sector whenever they can. Progression doesn’t just benefit them, the more they know, the better service they can provide to our clients.

“My job gives me so much satisfaction. You can see from the clients’ behaviour towards you that you do make a difference to your client’s life. I treat my clients as I would my own family, with respect, kindness and bring some joy and my fun side into their visit. I often go over and above my duties and yesterday, I went to buy a client a new ironing board as they were struggling with what they were already using. They were very grateful for this.”
