Reflections from the launch of our Adult Day Club in Northwood

Last week marked a wonderful milestone for our team as we officially launched our first Adult Day Club in Northwood!

We introduced this new service to help fill a real gap in local support for older residents, while complementing the fantastic community groups that already exist across the area.

What activities take place during a session at our Adult day club?

A typical day club session includes gentle movement exercises, games, creative crafts, reminiscence activities, and a wholesome two-course hot meal designed to encourage gentle social interaction.

Throughout our launch day, members settled in at their own pace. Highlights of the day included:

  • Gentle movement & games: Fun, accessible activities designed to encourage mobility and coordination.
  • Reminiscence & creative sessions: Group activities that prompt fond memories and spark shared stories.
  • A hot two-course lunch: Sitting down together for a wholesome meal and relaxed conversation.

What stood out most wasn’t just the activities themselves, but how naturally conversation flowed across the room. Members who were initially quiet soon opened up, sharing stories, encouraging one another, and enjoying being part of a friendly group.

Feedback from local families was equally encouraging. Several relatives mentioned that their loved one returned home brighter, more chatty, and already asking when the next session was running.

Why is there a need for adult day care services in Northwood?

Specialised adult day care services in Northwood are needed to bridge the gap between basic community social clubs and full-time care, offering a safe space where trained care professionals support older adults living with reduced mobility or memory loss.

While northern Hillingdon has many brilliant community groups and lunch clubs, as people’s needs become more complex, standard social settings aren’t always equipped to support them.

Our Northwood Adult Day Club provides an extra choice for residents who might otherwise become isolated at home. With fully trained Care Professionals on hand throughout the day, members with higher support needs can socialise safely and comfortably in a warm, welcoming environment.

How do adult day clubs support family carers in Hillingdon?

The launch also reinforced the important role that day clubs can play for family carers. Caring for a loved one can be physically and emotionally demanding.

Knowing that a family member is enjoying a meaningful day in a safe, supportive environment gives carers the opportunity to attend appointments, catch up with friends or simply take a well earned break, returning refreshed and better able to continue in their caring role.

What’s next?

This is only the beginning. Our ambition is to build a regular programme that provides older people with consistent opportunities for companionship, activity and connection, while giving family carers dependable respite they can plan around.

As demand grows, we hope to increase the frequency of our sessions and continue working alongside local community organisations to strengthen the range of support available for older residents across Moor Park, Northwood, Ruislip and Uxbridge.

Join us at our next Adult Day Club session

Whether you think an older relative would enjoy coming along to our next session, or you’re a family carer in need of a dependable break, we’d love to welcome you.

Joining is completely stress-free. Our friendly local team is always happy to have an informal chat, answer any questions about mobility or care needs, or arrange a visit so you can see what the club is all about!
