Dementia Information Day in Bridgnorth: A Community Success

At Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, we take pride in fostering connections and providing essential resources for individuals living with dementia, their families, and the wider community. Our third Dementia Information Day, held at Bridgnorth Rugby Club, exemplified this commitment by bringing together over 40 organisations for a day of learning, support, and empowerment.

A Hub of Resources and Expertise

The event offered visitors a unique opportunity to access dementia support in Bridgnorth and explore services tailored to the challenges of dementia. With stalls representing public, private, and voluntary organisations, attendees had access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise in one welcoming space.

Among the participants were renowned groups such as the Alzheimer’s Society, Shropshire Council, Age UK, The Butterfly Café, and the Dementia Action Alliance, alongside many others. Visitors could engage directly with dementia care professionals, activity providers, and local support groups, helping them discover invaluable resources close to home. Dementia awareness events in Shropshire, such as our Dementia Information Day, are key to ensuring families know where to turn for expert advice and tailored care services.

A quiet room was thoughtfully provided for those needing a moment of respite from the event, while refreshments sponsored by Bridgnorth Lions added to the warm and inclusive environment.

Karen Corcoran, Operations Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, shared her thoughts on the event:

“We are thrilled to have hosted our third Dementia Information Day. The turnout has been incredible, and it’s heartwarming to see so many people coming together to learn, connect, and access the services that can make such a difference in their lives. At Radfield Home Care, we are deeply committed to supporting people living with dementia to remain connected to what matters most to them. This event is a perfect example of that ethos in action.”

A Day of Collaboration and Connection

The feedback from attendees and participants underscored the value of bringing together a wide range of resources and expertise under one roof. Meg Andrews, a volunteer at the Butterfly Café, emphasised the importance of collaboration:

“It is really important to get as many different organisations together so that people can work together, cross-reference services, and make people aware of what’s available for people with dementia and their carers. Events like this ensure people know where support is available and how they can access it.”

Les Wilkinson, a volunteer at Dementia Action Alliance, highlighted the significance of face-to-face interactions in connecting people to the support they need:

“The beauty of these events is that people aren’t trying to search on Google for answers; they’re speaking directly with professionals, knowledgeable organisations, and charities.”

The success of the Dementia Information Day in Bridgnorth truly demonstrated the power of collaboration and the value of community-focused initiatives in supporting individuals and families living with dementia. Events like these also showcase the benefits of home care services for dementia in Bridgnorth, offering tailored and compassionate support that helps individuals remain connected to their community.
