Overcoming the challenges of hearing loss in the Shrewsbury community

Hearing loss can lead to feelings of isolation and frustration, especially in social settings. On Tuesday, 16 June, the See Hear Remember exhibition at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury provides a dedicated space for people to explore hearing support. This event is a collaboration between Community Resource, Sight Loss Shropshire, and Radfield Home Care.

Specialist hearing support at Theatre Severn

The Walker Theatre will host stalls focused on hearing health. Experts will be on hand to discuss the latest technology and support services.

  • Community Resource: An organiser of the event; they manage projects that help people stay connected. Their sensory support teams provide advice on hearing aids and communication techniques.
  • Specsavers: Provides hearing tests and advice on the latest digital hearing aids and assistive listening devices.
  • Shropshire Fire and Rescue: Offers specialized smoke alarms for people with hearing loss. These include vibrating pads and strobe lights to ensure safety at home.
  • Healthwatch Shropshire: An independent body that listens to people’s experiences of audiology and other health services to help improve local care.

The role of care in managing hearing loss

At Radfield Home Care, we understand that effective communication is the foundation of good care. Our care professionals are trained to communicate clearly with people who have hearing impairments. This involves simple adjustments such as facing the person when speaking and ensuring hearing aids are clean and functioning correctly.

We help clients remain active in their social lives. By assisting with transport to local groups or helping people use technology to stay in touch with family, we reduce the risk of isolation. Our support is about more than just physical tasks; it is about ensuring every individual feels heard and understood.

Event logistics and shuttle bus information

The exhibition is open from 10 am until 3 pm and is free to attend. A shuttle bus service, sponsored by Housing Plus Group, runs every 30 minutes from the town centre to Theatre Severn. This ensures that visitors can attend the event easily and safely. No booking is required; simply arrive and explore the support available.

How to attend the See Hear Remember exhibition

There is no need to book tickets for the See Hear Remember exhibition. Visitors can simply arrive at Theatre Severn between 10 am and 3 pm. Whether you are looking for specific medical advice, legal information, or just want to see what support is available locally, there is something for everyone.
