This month we celebrated our four-legged friends and the happiness, companionship and unconditional love they bring into our lives.
For many older people, pets are a really important part of everyday life. They can provide companionship, routine and plenty of opportunities for a smile whether that’s a morning walk, a cuddle on the sofa or simply having a loyal friend by your side.
Some of the people we support have dogs of their own, and we know just how important those furry family members are. As part of our care, we can also help with the little things that make it possible for clients to continue enjoying life with their pets whether that’s helping with a walk, feeding them or making sure their four-legged friend is happy and cared for too.
Because care isn’t just about the person it’s about the things that matter to them and make their house feel like home.
To celebrate, we thought we’d introduce you to some of the four-legged members of the Radfield Derby family! Please meet some of our team’s gorgeous dogs – we think you’ll agree they’re a pretty cute bunch!

There’s always plenty going on at Radfield, and this month was no exception! We started with some relaxing colouring before breakfast, a lovely way to ease into the day, unwind and enjoy a little creativity.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast of tasty pastries and fresh fruit, all included as part of the day. We then got stuck into card bingo before lunch! There was plenty of laughter, a little friendly competition and some very close games.
For lunch, we enjoyed the special from the Wicker Basket, scampi and chips, complete with the all-important tartar sauce! After lunch, it was time to get creative with the clay. We made some lovely flowers, while Peter decided to take inspiration from the tree picture on the wall and create his own version.
We love seeing everyone’s individual ideas and creativity! And what better way to round off the day than with a good old sing-along? A fun, sociable day with activities, good food and great company, all included in the day price!

At Spondon Day Centre, we’ve been celebrating Wellness Month with activities designed to get us thinking, moving and using our senses – all while enjoying plenty of conversation and laughter! We got creative decorating cakes before taking part in a taste-testing challenge, trying a variety of different foods. Some were firm favourites, while others definitely made us pull a few funny faces!
We explored the power of aromas and memories, talking about different smells that remind us of certain people, places and moments. We then put our noses to the test with an aroma guessing game, seeing who could identify the different scents!
We also challenged our listening and coordination skills with a clapping and rhythm activity, following different routines together.
And we finished with some gentle yoga and movement, taking time to stretch, relax and focus on our wellbeing. A lovely day filled with sensory experiences, memories, movement, laughter and connection. Another fantastic Friday at our Day Centre!
July had another fantastic refresher training session with members of our care team, taking time to revisit key practical skills including Basic Life Support, Medication Administration, and Moving & Handling.
Training isn’t just about meeting requirements – it’s about giving our carers the confidence to respond safely, make informed decisions, and provide the best possible support every day. Even experienced professionals benefit from taking the time to practise, ask questions, and share knowledge with colleagues.
A big thank you to everyone who attended for your enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment to delivering outstanding care. Your willingness to keep learning is what helps us maintain the high standards our clients deserve.

At Radfield Home Care Derby, Ashbourne & South Derbyshire, we know that great care starts with a great team. That’s why we invest in ongoing training, practical support, and opportunities to build a rewarding career.
We brought the team together for one of our regular staff meetings – a really important opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, share ideas, learn from one another and make sure everyone feels supported.
We were also pleased to welcome Hollie and Karen from Head Office.
Having regular staff meetings and support from colleagues across the wider organisation is so valuable. It keeps us connected, gives everyone a chance to have their voice heard, and helps us stay grounded in what really matters – our people and the people we care for.

Jaymie has stepped up and took on additional responsibilities at the day centre. She has shown a positive attitude and a willingness to support the team when needed. Jaymie has made great progress with her NVQ, showing dedication and commitment to her learning and development.

We’re delighted to share a few more details from the very special day of our Recruitment & Training Manager, Amanda, who tied the knot on Friday, 14th August!
After taking some well-deserved annual leave to enjoy the celebrations, Amanda and her new husband, James, spent the weekend having a lovely little break in the Peak District – the perfect way to relax after such a magical day.
Their beautiful wedding took place at the stunning Colwick Hall, and it sounds like they had everything needed for an unforgettable celebration! From a live singer and a sweet cart to a magician keeping everyone entertained, there was certainly no shortage of fun, laughter and special touches.
