Prestigious Care Award Nominations

At Radfield Home Care Derby, Ashbourne & South Derbyshire, exceptional care begins with extraordinary people. We are thrilled to celebrate two outstanding Care Professionals, Anne and Georgie, who have been nominated for prestigious care awards: the Home Care Newcomer Award and the Putting People First Award.

These national nominations recognise the immense dedication, compassion, and creative thinking that Anne and Georgie bring to their work every day.

For anyone wondering how to transition from childcare to adult social care, Anne and Georgie’s inspiring stories demonstrate that great care goes far beyond completing routine tasks, it is about building meaningful relationships and enriching daily lives.

Celebrating excellence in care: Anne and Georgie nominated for national awards in Derby

Anne’s journey: From childcare practitioner to award-nominated Care Professional

Anne joined our Derby team in September 2025 following a career break. Having previously worked as a Nursery Nurse and Pre-School Practitioner, she was seeking a complete career change into adult social care. Though she possessed years of caring experience with children, Anne felt nervous and lacked self-belief during her initial interview.

However, underneath her initial nerves was someone deeply compassionate, patient, and eager to help others.

If you’re looking at how to transition from childcare to adult social care, Anne’s success highlights how transferable skills, like patient listening, building trust, and providing reassurance, translate seamlessly into domiciliary care.

Anne actively asked questions, embraced mentor feedback, and completed her Care Certificate with determination. Today, Anne is a confident mentor herself, guiding new starters and earning December’s Employee of the Month award.

A ray of sunshine and extra effort

Anne’s relationship with her client, Pauline, highlights her personal touch. Although Pauline is a distant relative, her dementia means she does not remember the connection.

Anne has built a genuine bond with Pauline based entirely on who she is today, prompting Pauline’s daughter, Rachel, to describe Anne as “a little bit of sunshine in Pauline’s life.”

Anne routinely goes above and beyond, taking Pauline to the local park in her own time and recently guiding a client through delicate end-of-life care with immense dignity and tenderness.

Georgie’s story: Putting people first through compassion and creativity

As a newly registered Children’s Nurse, Georgie embraced the opportunity to support older adults across Derby with incredible enthusiasm. Nominated for the Putting People First Award, Georgie constantly looks for creative ways to tailor support to each individual’s unique background and needs.

When supporting a client living with dementia, Georgie began crocheting a bespoke blanket and “twiddle muff” in her spare time to provide tactile comfort and sensory stimulation.

Her extraordinary dedication is reflected in many ways, including:

  • Overcoming Language Barriers: Learning Polish to communicate directly with a client who speaks no English.
  • Sensory Crochet Creations: Crafting handmade sensory items to comfort clients living with dementia.
  • Preserving Family Bonds: Visiting a client in hospital in her own time and helping a separated couple stay connected.

What true person-centred care looks like in practice

Both Anne and Georgie embody the core values of Radfield Home Care. Anne’s transformation from a hesitant applicant to a trusted mentor proves what is possible with structured training and supportive leadership.

Georgie’s commitment to learning a new language and creating sensory crafts shows that true care adapts to the person, rather than expecting the person to fit a routine.

We are incredibly proud of the prestigious care awards nominations that they have both received. The stories of both Care Professionals are testament that with the right attitude and drive, a career transition from childcare to adult social care can be seamless.
