At Radfield Home Care Ormskirk, we believe in the power of community, connection, and remembrance. That’s why we were so proud to support a truly moving celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day at The Fountains Independent Establishment in Ormskirk. It was an afternoon filled with heartfelt tributes, joyful music, and shared memories. A beautiful reflection of our mission to help people remain connected to what matters most.
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, commemorates the end of World War II in Europe, a pivotal moment in history. This year marked the 80th anniversary, and it was more important than ever to take time to pause, reflect, and show our gratitude for those who served and sacrificed.
With blue skies overhead and a gentle spring breeze, residents, families, and friends gathered at The Fountains for an afternoon of remembrance and joy. The event brought generations together in a spirit of unity, providing the perfect opportunity to celebrate the resilience of our communities.
We were especially honoured to support the day’s events and help raise funds for the Tommy Club, through a charity raffle. This contribution helps preserve the memory of those who served and continues to support today’s veterans and their families.
The celebration was brought to life with delicious cakes and bakes kindly provided by Mr. Thompson’s Bakery, presented on elegant tiered stands that added a touch of classic charm to the day. These treats were beautifully arranged by our talented friend Joe Sherville. Some may recognise Joe from his appearance on Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook over a decade ago. His passion for food and flair for entertaining added a warm and personal element to the afternoon.
Guests shared stories over tea and cake, making the most of every moment spent together. It’s in these simple, shared experiences that meaningful connections are built. Something we at Radfield Home Care Ormskirk value deeply.
Music played a central role in the afternoon’s atmosphere. Live performer Dave Benjamin treated everyone to a nostalgic selection of wartime favourites and sing-along classics. With his heartfelt renditions, he brought the past to life and encouraged everyone to tap their feet, sway to the rhythm, and even join in with a few choruses.
Laughter, song, and conversation filled the air, reminding us that joy and remembrance can go hand in hand. These moments of happiness and togetherness are at the heart of what we do as a home care provider.
Behind every successful event is a team of dedicated individuals who give their time and energy to make things special. A heartfelt thank you goes to Anette, our Field Care Coordinator, who helped coordinate the event, and to all the volunteers who supported us on the day.
We also extend our gratitude to Joe and Sandra Sherville for their creativity and to Dave Bellis, our wonderful Director and Business Owner, who was seen chatting with guests, helping behind the bar, and even dancing with residents.
This was more than just an event. It was a true expression of what it means to be part of a caring community.
