Specialist home care services provider Radfield Home Care Wakefield and Dewsbury, located in Ossett, West Yorkshire, has taken great pleasure in being able to go the extra mile for their clients throughout the Covid lockdown period.
Jackie Gillen, owner and director and Gemma Bristow, registered care manager for the office, have been busy creating personal ‘Treat Boxes’ as they identified early on the social impact, including isolation, that lockdown was having upon their clients.
“When we went into lockdown our care professionals began feeding back that our clients were understandably unable to receive some of the support they would usually have from their family and friends. We were passionate to try and alleviate any loneliness and isolation and think of ways we could brighten their day. We sent a survey out to our carers to capture their ideas and to identify what our client’s would enjoy – Jackie and I then went through the ideas.”
The result was a production line of treat boxes, all carefully put together by the home care team. As Gemma says:
“I loved making them and took so much care to make sure everything looked really nice, it is great to be able to take a bit of time to do something thoughtful.”
The boxes contained a variety of different items:
• Cake & Tea – A very popular treat, the carer brought the tea and cake to the client’s home and, in line with Covid regulations, was able to share this with their client. Bringing that little bit of joy and normality to the day.
• Crossword puzzle and Radfield quiz – The importance of keeping entertained being so vital during this period, Radfield also devised their own quiz complete with a prize! All answers were submitted back via their carer making it a really interactive experience. The winner chose a gift of their own choice – an amazon gift card so that they could purchase a beautiful flower vase.
• Seeds to bring the garden indoors – Mindful of the benefit of gardening and the enjoyment experienced by watching something grow over time, a small plant pot and packet of seeds were provided in individually wrapped and hand-tied bags.
The receipt of the treat boxes was really appreciated by many and led to a flurry of thank you cards and lovely messages from clients, including:
“Just wanted to thank Radfield Home carers for the lovely gift box, left at Mum’s today. She will enjoy all the little treats and I completed the quiz with her answers. She enjoys crosswords and simple quizzes, so they were all much appreciated.”
“Thank you so much to the managers and care staff for that. It’ll give me something a little different to do with my day. I’m going to have fun this afternoon!”
“Just like to say thank you for the goodie box, what a lovely thought. I’ve potted the seeds and we’re looking forward to seeing what they are.”
