At the heart of truly person-centred care are the relationships that grow over time. The bond between Laura and Janine is a perfect example of this in action.
Laura has been supporting Janine consistently for just under three years, and in that time they have built a strong and meaningful working relationship. From the very beginning, they clicked instantly, and what has developed since is a connection filled with trust, laughter, and genuine friendship, while always maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Laura describes their time together as something they both look forward to, noting that even when they are not doing anything specific, they always find themselves talking, laughing, and sharing good moments. Over the years, this has built a real sense of familiarity and comfort between them, almost like family.

Day to day, Laura supports Janine with all aspects of daily living, including personal care, moving and handling, meals, household tasks, and medication, ensuring she has the support she needs to live safely and comfortably at home.
Alongside this, Laura also provides regular social & companionship support, which has created many enjoyable shared experiences. These have included trips to the cinema (including a memorable outing to see Minions), Christmas shopping days, pub lunches, and regular visits into town for shopping and coffee.

A significant part of Laura’s support also takes place at home, where she often assists with additional tasks that help improve Janine’s day-to-day life and independence.
This has included cleaning and household support, as well as practical DIY work such as repairing a garden fence, applying sealant in the bathroom, building furniture, and creating a framed picture wall. Laura also supported Janine by painting her home, including the kitchen, after a planned family arrangement could no longer go ahead due to illness. Over two social calls, she painted the walls, kitchen door, ceiling, and skirting boards, something Janine was extremely grateful for.
Laura also regularly supports with smaller but meaningful tasks such as shopping, picking up treats, collecting prescriptions, visiting the chemist, dropping items to the charity shop, helping with technology, and assisting with returns. These everyday actions help Janine maintain independence and reduce reliance on others.
As Laura explains, because she is with Janine so regularly, it feels natural to help where she can, often going above and beyond to make life that little bit easier.

Over time, this consistent support has built a deep level of trust. Janine knows she can rely on Laura completely, not only for practical help, but also for emotional support and companionship.
Laura understands Janine’s routine well and is able to recognise her mood and needs, adapting her approach accordingly, whether that means bringing energy and laughter or offering quiet reassurance on more difficult days.
Janine has shared that she feels comfortable speaking openly with Laura about anything on her mind, including personal worries she may not feel able to share with others. She particularly values the social aspect of their time together and the way Laura consistently goes above and beyond without needing to be asked.
Janine’s family also value this relationship greatly, finding reassurance in the consistency, trust, and genuine care Laura provides.
Reflecting on her time supporting Janine, Laura speaks with clear admiration. She describes Janine as a strong, kind, and inspirational woman who has faced significant challenges and adapted to life with resilience and determination.
Despite difficulties, Janine continues to move forward, and Laura says she feels privileged to support her through that journey. She highlights how inspiring it is to hear Janine’s life story and witness her strength first-hand.

This story reflects what truly personalised care looks like, care that is built on trust, consistency, and genuine human connection.
It shows how the right support can go far beyond daily tasks, helping someone to maintain independence, enjoy life, feel supported emotionally, and continue doing the things that matter most to them.
