Every other Monday the Alzheimer’s Society host the Memory Café at the Benbe Coffee shop at Chester Zoo, providing valuable dementia care in Chester. This event has become very popular for people living with dementia and their families. On arrival, you are greeted by friendly staff and volunteers who are at hand to answer any questions.
During the two-hour session there are many activities to do! A quiz, Colouring in a picture of an animal from the zoo, Word search and getting to chat with other people who may require support.
We spoke to a few of the Care Professionals and asked if any of their clients may enjoy going to the event. Brenda is one of our clients who showed great interest in going and enjoys socialising. She also enjoys the walk up to the Elephant enclosure and a walk around the gift shop.
We also asked Renee and she went for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it and asked if this could be a regular event that she goes to.
Dave who is one of Brenda’s main Care professionals puts a reminder on the fridge door that they are going, Brenda is always ready and dressed up and eager to go.
She said that she loves animals and meeting other people for a coffee and getting out and about in the sunshine.
Jane who Brings Renee told us that the smile on Renee’s face was amazing. She thoroughly enjoyed chatting with other people and taking part in the quiz.
