New partnership with Parkinson’s UK Chester & District to support local people

Finding the right care and support for someone living with Parkinson’s can feel like a big step for families. As needs change, families may be looking for ways to provide additional support while helping their loved one remain independent, connected to their community and able to enjoy the things that matter to them.

At Radfield Home Care Chester & Ellesmere Port, we believe good home care should be about much more than practical tasks. It should help people continue living life their way, in the place they call home, while giving families reassurance that they have the right support around them.

That is why we are delighted to be developing a new partnership with the Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch, creating an opportunity to provide respite care for some of their members.

Building a partnership to support local people living with Parkinson’s

Over the past couple of months, we’ve been delighted to work closely with Pam and Pat from the Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch to develop a new partnership that will provide respite care for some of their members.

This service has been made possible thanks to a generous legacy fund that was kindly left to the group, with the intention of using it to benefit their members. We are incredibly pleased that this generosity will help create opportunities for local people and their families to access additional support.

The service will begin in September, and we are looking forward to seeing the difference it can make. We are also excited to continue developing our relationship with the local Parkinson’s community and understanding how we can work together to support people affected by Parkinson’s.

The Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch provides valuable support to local people affected by Parkinson’s, including social activities, exercise, practical support and opportunities to connect with others who understand their experiences.

The branch’s singing group is one example of this community-focused support. It takes place on Friday afternoons at St Columba’s Church Hall on Plas Newton Lane in Chester, welcoming people regardless of singing experience.

For more information about the group, its activities and the support available, we encourage people to contact the Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch directly.

Why respite care can make a difference

When a family member provides regular support to someone living with Parkinson’s, it can be difficult to find time for themselves. Caring for someone you love can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be tiring, particularly when support is needed regularly.

Respite care can give family members the opportunity to take a break, attend an appointment, spend time with friends or simply have some time to themselves, knowing that their loved one is being supported by a trusted Care Professional.

For someone living with Parkinson’s, having familiar and respectful support can also make it easier to remain at home and continue with everyday routines. This might include help with personal care, preparing meals, household tasks, companionship or getting out and about.

The right level of support will look different for every person. Some families may only need occasional visiting care, while others may benefit from more regular visits or a personalised care package that can adapt as circumstances change.

Supporting people to remain connected

Our approach to home care is centred around our Be There commitments: helping people to Be themselves, Be connected and Be inspired.

For us, this means understanding the person behind their care needs and supporting them to remain connected to the people, communities and places that matter to them.

Our Chester & Ellesmere Port team provides visiting care and live in care, alongside flexible and personalised care packages. We can support people affected by Parkinson’s and other conditions, as well as providing respite for family carers and companionship that helps people stay connected to their local community.

We also understand that care needs can change over time. Our approach is therefore designed to be flexible, with care packages able to develop as someone’s circumstances change. Families can discuss changes with our care team rather than having to manage those adjustments alone.

A local partnership built around connection and support

Partnerships with local organisations are an important part of helping people age well. By working alongside community groups such as the Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch, we can better understand the experiences of local people and identify ways to provide meaningful support.

This partnership is about more than arranging respite care. It is about connection, community and helping people continue to have choice and independence in their everyday lives.

We are grateful to Pam, Pat and everyone involved with the Parkinson’s UK Chester & District Branch for the opportunity to work together. We look forward to beginning the service in September and continuing to build a relationship that benefits local people living with Parkinson’s and the families who support them.
