Radfield Home Care Hosts Successful Dementia Awareness Day in High Wycombe

Radfield Home Care Wycombe, Beaconsfield & South Bucks proudly hosted a vibrant and engaging Dementia Awareness Day in partnership with Shelburne Lodge Barchester Healthcare. Held at High Wycombe Library, the event welcomed over 150 attendees from across the local community and various organisations, all united in raising awareness and improving support for those affected by dementia.

Strengthening local support for people living with dementia

At Radfield Home Care, we believe in building strong, supportive networks that enhance the lives of older people. This event brought together care providers, local charities, volunteers, and residents, creating an open, informative space to share resources and raise awareness of dementia care in Wycombe and surrounding areas.
The library provided a warm and accessible setting, and our partners at Shelburne Lodge arrived with a wealth of knowledge, and plenty of cake, to support our community café and conversations.

A diverse mix of local organisations and services

Throughout the day, attendees engaged with a fantastic range of local organisations offering support, insights, and practical tools for individuals living with dementia and their families. Contributors included:

  • Absolute Mobility – showcasing adaptive bathroom solutions tailored for people with mobility challenges.
  • Alzheimer’s Research UK – providing updates on groundbreaking research and developments in dementia care.
  • Otago, Caroline Cooker – sharing balance and strength exercises to help older adults maintain independence and reduce falls.
  • Pets As Therapy – delighting visitors with therapy dogs and highlighting the emotional benefits of animal-assisted therapy.
  • Hilltop Community Centre, Movers & Shakers Group – presenting physical activity sessions aimed at improving wellbeing in older adults.
  • Carers Bucks – offering guidance and resources to unpaid carers supporting loved ones at home.
  • Talking Newspaper – introducing a free audio news service for people with visual impairments or reading difficulties.
  • Izzy, Music Therapist – demonstrating how music therapy enhances communication and wellbeing for people living with dementia.
  • Alternatives to Conflict – offering strategies to manage communication difficulties and build positive relationships.
  • South Bucks Hospice – represented by Richard, who shared how hospices offer holistic and uplifting support for people with terminal illnesses and their families.
  • 50 Plus – promoting reliable repair and maintenance services that help older people remain safe and comfortable at home.
  • Alzheimer’s Society – raising awareness and funds to support families and individuals affected by dementia across the UK.
  • Grey Matters Consultancy – supporting older people in accessing their full benefits and entitlements.
