‘Wellness through drama’- for Adults and Individuals with Dementia

Working with Quest Soul Theatre to support our community

Along with providing quality home care services in their local area to the areas of Radfield Home Care Bromley, Orpington & Beckenham directors, Simi Ghuman & Chanice Baugh have joined with Quest Soul Theatre to offer a one-of-a-kind café experience to you. Quest, led by Mercedes Yearley, a seasoned drama facilitator, delivers ‘Wellness through Drama,’ and they are bringing their expertise to the Connections Café.

Dementia support: the benefits of Wellness Through Drama

There are several benefits of getting involved with ‘Wellness through Drama’ for adults and individuals with dementia:

1. Improved communication:

Drama activities can help individuals with dementia improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. They can enhance their ability to express themselves, share emotions, and connect with others.

2. Increased self-confidence:

Engaging in drama can boost self-confidence and self-esteem for individuals with dementia. It provides them with a sense of accomplishment and allows them to showcase their talents and abilities.

3. Enhanced cognitive function:

Drama activities stimulate cognitive functions such as memory, attention, problem-solving, and creativity. This can help slow down cognitive decline and maintain cognitive abilities for a longer period.

4. Emotional expression:

Drama provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals with dementia to express their emotions. It allows them to explore different feelings, release stress, and express themselves in a creative and meaningful way.

5. Social interaction:

Participating in drama activities encourages social interaction and engagement with others. It provides opportunities for individuals with dementia to connect with their peers, build relationships, and reduce feelings of isolation or loneliness.

6. Sense of purpose and enjoyment:

Drama activities offer individuals with dementia a sense of purpose and enjoyment. It gives them something to look forward to, engages them in meaningful activities, and fosters a sense of joy and accomplishment.

7. Improved overall well-being:

Engaging in drama can have a positive impact on the overall well-being of individuals with dementia. It can reduce anxiety, depression, and agitation, and promote a sense of happiness, fulfilment, and overall quality of life.

The introductory event, ‘Letters that Changed the World,’ promises an enchanting journey through history. Be a part of our mission to foster a more connected community. Come, join us, on Tuesday 26th September from 10.30 am – 12.30 pm at Communities House and let the Connections Café create lasting bonds and unforgettable memories.
