A Joyful Canal Boat Trip in Ellesmere with Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry

A Special Day Out for Our Clients

On 31st July, we were delighted to take a group of our clients from Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry on a scenic and heartwarming canal boat trip in Ellesmere. The day was made possible with the kind support of the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Severn.

It was a day filled with smiles, laughter and new connections. For many of our clients, it was their very first time on a canal boat. The experience offered something new and exciting, made even more special by our familiar and friendly Care Professionals, who were there to offer support throughout the day.

This trip is a true reflection of our Be There promise, showing how we go beyond practical care to help people stay connected to what matters most.

Making Memories and New Friendships

Setting off along the canal to Frankton, the group enjoyed a peaceful cruise through the beautiful countryside. As the boat glided along the water, conversations flowed and new friendships were formed. A picnic lunch was served on board, giving everyone a chance to relax and enjoy fresh air, tasty food and great company.

Karen Corcoran, our Operations Manager, said, “It was a truly heartwarming experience that left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

After a couple of hours on the water, the boat returned to Ellesmere. The day ended with happy faces, new friendships and plenty of talk about the next outing.

A Community Effort with Real Impact

We’re incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury Severn for their generosity and support. Past president David Morris, who was part of the organising team, shared, “It was an idyllic day, as none of the new sailors had ever been on a canal boat before.

Following the success of this outing, another trip has already been arranged for 28th August. David is also hoping to raise enough funds to run more sessions in 2026. He added, “That will be entirely down to the generosity of the Shrewsbury public though. It’s certainly getting harder to raise funds. People are really being squeezed for cash, and we can see things are getting much tighter for families.

Community events like this show how partnerships can make a real difference to people receiving home care in Shrewsbury and nearby areas.
