Karen Corcoran, Operations Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, has been honoured with a Mayor’s Special Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the local community. The award was presented on Wednesday, 14th May, during a ceremony at Shrewsbury Town Football Club.
The mayoral award is a prestigious honour, presented annually by the Mayor of Shrewsbury, to individuals and organisations who demonstrate exceptional dedication to community service. This year’s awards were personally selected and presented by Councillor David Vasmer, acknowledging excellence in fields such as public service, business, the arts, and community support.
Since joining Radfield Home Care in 2021, Karen has drawn on over 35 years of experience in retail and customer service to enhance the organisation’s operations. Her leadership has been instrumental in guiding and supporting a team of dedicated Care Professionals, helping to deliver award winning care to older people throughout Shrewsbury and Oswestry.
A passionate advocate for people living with dementia, Karen launched the first Dementia Support Information Day in 2023, during Dementia Action Week. The event brought together over 30 organisations, providing much-needed resources and support for individuals and families navigating life with dementia.
Now in its fourth year, the 2025 event welcomed more than 80 organisations to Theatre Severn, showcasing how awareness and community involvement in dementia care have grown significantly under Karen’s leadership.
Beyond dementia advocacy, Karen has played a leading role in building partnerships across the public, private, and voluntary sectors. These partnerships have helped to create inclusive events and initiatives that offer support for people with hearing loss, sight loss, and other conditions that can impact independence and wellbeing.
Her commitment to community collaboration aligns strongly with Radfield Home Care’s mission to help people age well by staying connected to the things that matter most.
