At Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, we were proud to host the See, Hear & Dementia Information Day on Tuesday 21st May 2025 in collaboration with Sight Loss Shropshire and Community Resource. Held at Theatre Severn in the heart of Shrewsbury, this free event welcomed over 300 attendees and more than 70 stallholders for a day dedicated to supporting people affected by dementia, sight loss or hearing loss, as well as their families and unpaid carers.
Running from 10am to 3pm, the day brought together a wide range of services and organisations under one roof, all with the shared goal of helping people live well and age well. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect people with expert advice, community groups and helpful organisations all under one roof.
As a dedicated provider of home care in Shrewsbury and Oswestry, we understand how vital it is to keep people connected to the support they need to live well and age well. This event was a true celebration of that mission.
The See, Hear & Dementia Information Day in Shrewsbury was designed to offer a safe, welcoming space for people to explore the many forms of support available across Shropshire. Whether attendees were living with a diagnosis, supporting a loved one, or simply looking to find out more, the event was open to all.
Some of the many organisations in attendance included:
Stallholders were on hand to answer questions, share information and demonstrate services from across the health, social care, and voluntary sectors. Many attendees commented on how reassuring it was to speak directly with experts and meet others with shared experiences.
The event also provided the chance for visitors to discover more about personalised home care services in Shrewsbury, mobility aids, assistive technology and emotional wellbeing support.
We were honoured to welcome Alex Wagner, Mayor of Shrewsbury, to the event for what was his first official public appearance in office.
Speaking to attendees, he said:
It’s been brilliant to be here at the event today. It’s genuinely inspiring seeing all the groups that have been brought together.
His comments perfectly summed up the energy of the day. There was a real sense of togetherness, as professionals, volunteers and residents all came together with a shared commitment to supporting one another.
The success of the event was the result of a strong partnership between three committed organisations: Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, Sight Loss Shropshire, and Community Resource.
Karen Corcoran, Operations Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, shared:
It was a fantastic opportunity for three organisations to work together to support the people of Shropshire. The energy in the room was incredible, people felt informed, listened to and supported.
As a private home care provider in Shrewsbury, we understand the power of collaboration in helping people feel less isolated and more confident in their care journey. Events like this one allow people to access information in an environment that feels friendly, open and supportive.
The event placed a strong emphasis on recognising the role of unpaid carers, who are often family members or friends caring for a loved one without formal support. We know that these carers can face emotional and physical strain, and that they often struggle to find the help they need.
By bringing together a wide variety of organisations under one roof, we aimed to provide a central hub where unpaid carers could learn about respite services, home care options, dementia care, sensory support and more.
At Radfield Home Care, we are committed to supporting unpaid carers as well as those receiving care. Our Care Professionals provide a reliable and compassionate service that families can trust, offering everything from companionship and dementia care to assistance with medication, nutrition and daily routines.
Events like the See, Hear & Dementia Information Day play a crucial role in keeping people connected. Whether it’s knowing who to call for support, feeling heard in a conversation, or learning about a new piece of equipment, small interactions can have a big impact.
