Radfield elves raise smiles & money for national charity day

Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury and Oswestry have quite literally been busy elves this Christmas, sharing some much needed cheer amongst clients – all whilst raising important funds for the Alzheimer’s Society at the same time.

Held in December, Elf Day is full of festive fun and is organised by the Alzheimer’s Society aiming to raise money for those impacted by dementia. Participants are encouraged to dress up and fundraise, something that Radfield Home Care’s care manager Sonya Cole and her team were only too happy to support:

“Having previously supported Elf Day last year we knew how much fun it was for both our team of care professionals and for our clients. I personally felt it was important to support charities such as the Alzheimer’s Society whose revenue generation has been hit so hard this year – it made Elf Day more poignant for us this year. We were determined to raise as many smiles and as much money as we could, we wanted it to be a bit more special.”

Keen to get the donations coming in, Sonya arranged an array of beautiful hampers which were raffled off, raising a fantastic £250 with all the proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society. The hampers consisted of a range of goodies, with the largest hamper containing items such as a celebratory bottle of champagne, Christmas decorations, beauty products and a wax burner.

To get into the spirit, the care professional team also sported fetching elf outfits and, in compliance with Covid-19 protocols, wore them while carrying out their daily client visits. Clients were delighted to see the effort made by the team and it really did make their day as Sonya explains:

“We let the carers dress up and visit the clients which they absolutely loved – the clients were having pictures taken with them, it brought a smile to their faces, it was priceless! A few of the clients even asked for raffle tickets, it was such a great day for all.

At Radfield we like to support others and charities that are really close to home for our clients, the dementia advice they provide informs our work, it all enhances the specialist care we provide.”
