Dementia Action Week: Focus on community & connection

Dementia Action Week provided an opportunity to raise awareness, share support, and celebrate the many ways people living with dementia can continue to live fulfilling and connected lives. We shared information on simple ways families can stay connected with loved ones living with dementia.

Activities such as listening to familiar music, looking through photographs, sharing a favourite meal, playing simple games, and reminiscing together can all help spark conversation, create comfort, and strengthen relationships.

At Radfield Home Care Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern, supporting people living with memory illnesses remains a key part of our work. Through our personalised visiting care services and Adult Day Care Centre, we help people maintain their independence, enjoy meaningful activities, and remain connected to their communities, while also providing valuable reassurance and respite for families and unpaid carers.

Dementia Action Week was a powerful reminder that nobody should face dementia alone. If you or a loved one would like information on local activities for people living with dementia, contact the team at [email protected] for more support.

Wear it Green day for mental health awareness week

This May, our team proudly took part in Wear It Green Day as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. The campaign encourages people to start conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and recognise the importance of looking after our wellbeing. Across the branch, our team embraced the challenge by wearing green and showing their support for a cause that affects us all.

Working in care, we understand the importance of connection, kindness, and supporting one another. Whether it’s checking in on a colleague, spending time with a client, or making space for meaningful conversations, small actions can have a significant impact on mental wellbeing.

This year’s theme, “Take Action”, reminded us that supporting mental health doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes, simply being there for somebody can make all the difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who got involved and helped raise awareness while bringing plenty of team spirit and smiles to the day.

Radfield Home Care’s Team are Community Cancer Champions

This month, the entire team at Radfield Home Care Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern completed Community Cancer Champion training, delivered by Sophie from Community Power. The training provided valuable information on recognising possible signs and symptoms of cancer, understanding local support services, and having sensitive conversations with individuals who may have concerns about their health. The sessions also explored how to support people living with cancer, cancer survivors, and those recently diagnosed.

As Care Professionals, we are often trusted by clients and families with important conversations. This training has equipped our team with the confidence to listen, signpost, and encourage people to access the support they may need.

The sessions were incredibly informative, with plenty of practical advice and opportunities for discussion. Most importantly, they reinforced the important role that community organisations and individuals can play in raising awareness and encouraging early action.

We are proud that every member of our team can now act as a Community Cancer Champion, helping to share knowledge and support both within our care services and across the wider Worcestershire community.

Clare & Karl take on 100 Miles in May for Parkinson’s

A huge congratulations to Clare and Karl, who successfully completed the 100 Miles in May challenge in support of Parkinson’s UK. Throughout the month, they dedicated their time and energy to walking, raising awareness, and supporting a charity that is particularly close to our hearts.

As our chosen house charity, Parkinson’s UK plays a vital role in supporting people living with Parkinson’s and their families, while also funding ground-breaking research into the condition. Both Clare and Karl showed incredible commitment, fitting miles around busy work schedules and daily responsibilities to reach their goal.

At Radfield Home Care Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern, we are proud to support many people living with Parkinson’s through our care services and community partnerships. Fundraising initiatives such as this help us continue raising awareness while supporting the fantastic work carried out by Parkinson’s UK.

Be There Moments: The little things that matter

At Radfield Home Care, our Be There promise is about being present for the moments that matter most. This month, we celebrated two wonderful examples of that promise in action from our Care Professional, Angela. Angela recently took the time to paint a client’s nails, helping them feel pampered, confident, and cared for. On another occasion, she surprised a client with a chocolate cake simply because she knew it would bring a smile to their face.

For many clients, our Care Professionals become trusted companions as well as caregivers. Taking time for a chat, sharing a laugh, or remembering a favourite treat can be just as meaningful as the practical support we provide. We are incredibly proud of Angela and all of our Care Professionals who go above and beyond every day to create these special Be There moments.

May health & wellness tip: Keeping cool in hot temperatures

With the UK experiencing unusually high temperatures this May, it’s important to take extra care during warmer weather, particularly for older adults, who can be more vulnerable to dehydration and heat-related illness.

Top tips for staying cool:

  • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty
  • Keep out of direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm)
  • Close curtains or blinds in sunny rooms to help keep your home cool
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing
  • Enjoy water-rich foods such as melon, strawberries, cucumber, and oranges

Remember to check in on older relatives, neighbours, and friends during hot weather too. A quick phone call or visit can make a big difference.
