Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern Becomes a Team of Community Cancer Champions

At Radfield Home Care Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern, we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our clients, their families, and the wider community. This commitment extends beyond the care we provide in people’s homes and into the conversations, guidance, and reassurance that our team offers every day.

That is why we are proud to share that every member of our team has now completed Community Cancer Champion training.

Over two days, Sophie from Community Power joined us at our Worcester office to deliver comprehensive training to our entire team, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to become Community Cancer Champions both within their roles and across the local community.

Community Cancer Champions

Why Community Cancer Champions Matter

Cancer affects countless individuals and families across the UK. While awareness around cancer continues to grow, many people still feel uncertain about recognising possible symptoms, understanding where to seek support, or knowing how to start conversations about concerns they may have. Community Cancer Champions help bridge this gap by increasing awareness, encouraging early conversations, and signposting people to appropriate services and support.

As care professionals, we are often uniquely placed to have these conversations. We regularly spend time with clients in their own homes, build trusted relationships with families, and are often the people individuals feel comfortable talking to about worries or changes they have noticed.

By becoming Community Cancer Champions, our team is now better equipped to support those conversations in a sensitive, informed, and compassionate way.

What the training covered

The training delivered by Community Power provided a wealth of practical information and
guidance.

Our team learned more about:

  • Common signs and symptoms that may warrant further investigation
  • The importance of early detection and diagnosis
  • Local services and organisations available to support individuals affected by cancer
  • How to signpost people towards appropriate support and information
  • Approaching conversations around possible symptoms with confidence and sensitivity
  • Supporting people living with cancer, cancer survivors, and those recently diagnosed
  • Understanding the emotional impact a cancer diagnosis can have on individuals and
    families

The sessions were highly interactive and encouraged discussion, allowing our team to ask questions, share experiences, and develop confidence in handling potentially difficult conversations.

Supporting our clients beyond care

At Radfield Home Care, we know that great care is about much more than practical support. While our Care Professionals provide assistance with daily routines, personal care, medication support, and companionship, they also play an important role in promoting wellbeing and helping people access the support they need.

Being able to recognise when someone may need additional guidance and knowing where to direct them can make a significant difference. The training reinforced the importance of listening carefully, creating safe spaces for conversation, and empowering people to seek help when needed.

Making a difference in our communities

One of the most exciting aspects of the Community Cancer Champion programme is that its impact extends far beyond our clients. Our team members are now able to take this knowledge into the wider Worcestershire community, sharing information with friends, neighbours, local groups, and community organisations.

As a business that is deeply committed to community engagement, we recognise the value of helping people access information and support before they reach a crisis point.

Whether through our community events, partnerships, Adult Day Care Centre, or home care services, we are always looking for ways to contribute positively to the wellbeing of the communities we serve.

Thank you

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Sophie and the Community Power team for delivering such engaging, informative, and empowering training.

The sessions have provided our team with valuable skills that will benefit not only the people we support through our care services, but also the wider Worcestershire community.

We are incredibly proud that every member of the Radfield Home Care Worcester, Droitwich & Malvern team can now confidently call themselves a Community Cancer Champion. Together, we can help encourage conversations, raise awareness, and ensure people know where to turn for support when they need it most.
