Before joining Radfield, Jemma worked for many years on a Specialist Dementia Unit in a care home in Worcestershire, supporting residents with their daily tasks. Jemma has an NVQ in Health & Social Care and after a break on maternity leave is now working towards her NVQ level 3. Whilst working for Radfield Home Care as a carer, Jemma was promoted to an office role, which has allowed her to grow in confidence and gain valuable experience in an office/administrative environment. Jemma comments, “ You never stop achieving great things in life; moving away to start a new adventure with my husband was a great personal achievement, then becoming a mum to my wonderful son became another amazing achievement, and my recent promotion to care administrator was the icing on the cake.”

Jemma also added

“I didn’t know how I would take to being a carer when I first started my career in care, but my friends and family kept telling me that I have a really caring nature and would be perfect. When I started I then realised how rewarding it is to be helping someone, even if it’s making that person smile. As time progressed, I was going home every day feeling very proud and happy that I had helped make a difference to a person’s life that day.”

Jemma added,

“I get great support and guidance working for Radfield and I feel that I’m in a team that works and communicates well with each other, it’s like a little ‘work family’.”

Jemma has been kind enough to share some special moments she has experienced with some of her clients and described them as, “There are many special moments you have when helping and supporting clients to be independent in their own homes. I love hearing about our client’s life stories. One story stands out in particular though, and that was when a client was telling me what her Dad used to do during his time as a farmer. My client said, “the farming smells were strong, but it was the best smell ever and it always put a smile on her face when he came home from work.”

Working for Radfield gives Jemma the perfect combination of a good work and home life balance with enormous flexibility. Jemma commented, ”Being a mum and spending time at home with my family is really important to me, so I can build and share the special memories with my family, just like some of my clients have shared with me.”
